SAN Warns EFCC, DSS, Police Chiefs Against Political Loyalty, Demands Equal Treatment In Freezing Government Accounts
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, has urged heads of key government agencies, including the EFCC, DSS and the Nigeria Police Force, to remain loyal to the Nigerian people rather than politicians.
Speaking on Arise TV, Olumide-Fusika warned that politicians often abandon public officials when it becomes politically convenient, urging those in sensitive positions to always act in the public interest.
His remarks followed the controversy over the freezing of the Osun State Government's account and President Bola Tinubu's directive to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze it.
The senior lawyer argued that the EFCC should not have unchecked powers to freeze government accounts. He said if such action is intended to prevent public funds from being used to finance elections, then the policy should apply equally to all government accounts, including those of the federal government and its agencies, whenever elections are held.
Olumide-Fusika noted that similar measures were not taken during the recent off-cycle governorship election in Ekiti State, stressing that anti-corruption actions must be applied consistently and without political bias.
While acknowledging concerns over the misuse of public funds for election campaigns, he said the solution must be lawful, transparent and fair. He also said he accepted President Tinubu's explanation that the EFCC acted on a valid court order but maintained that such powers should remain subject to judicial oversight.
He concluded by reminding public officials that their greatest responsibility is to serve Nigerians, warning that political leaders can easily "throw you under the bus" whenever it suits their interests.

We had off cycle elections in Ekiti, even with the same argument of them using government money to fund elections, no accounts were frozen. We know they spend money… pic.twitter.com/m6Z1AqXtPA
