Former Kogi West Senator and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dino Melaye, has issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, drawing parallels with the late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, August 5, Melaye argued that political endorsements alone do not determine political success, insisting that divine intervention ultimately shapes the destiny of leaders.

According to the former senator, Abacha once enjoyed the backing of all five registered political parties during his attempt to transition from military rule to a civilian presidency, with many believing his emergence as president was inevitable.

However, Melaye said those plans never came to fruition because of what he described as the "God factor in the affairs of men."

"There is a God factor in the affairs of men. Tinubu does not understand this. Abacha was endorsed by all the five political parties at that time. There was no contest; he was already cruising to become civilian president. God picked His phone and called Abacha. When God calls you, there is no network failure. That God has not gone on omugo. Tinubu watch it," Melaye wrote.

 The outspoken politician's comments come amid growing political discussions and early alignments ahead of the 2027 general election. While President Tinubu has yet to publicly respond to Melaye's remarks, the statement has generated reactions across social media, with supporters and critics debating its political and spiritual implications.

Melaye's reference to Abacha recalls the late military ruler's widely reported plan to transform into a civilian president before his sudden death in June 1998, an event that abruptly ended the transition programme.
