Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has suggested that factors beyond transfer fees and salaries may explain why no Premier League club has signed Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen has been linked with several English clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, but none has completed a deal for the striker.
Speaking to GOAL, Cole said Osimhen has the quality to succeed in England, pointing to his goalscoring record in both Italy and Turkey.
“He does. He scores goals. He scored goals in Italy and he’s scoring goals in Turkey as well,” Cole said.
The former England international, however, stressed that transfers involve more than simply agreeing on a player's salary or paying a transfer fee.
“But, you know, it depends. There are many different factors in signing a player from a respective country. It’s not all about just the salary or the transfer fee. There could be many different things that go on,” he added.
Cole also said he believes Osimhen would be well suited to the Premier League if he eventually makes the move.
“If he does come to the Premier League, which I think he will be very good at, you never know who he’ll go to,” he said.
Osimhen began his European career with Wolfsburg before establishing himself at Charleroi, Lille and Napoli. He played a key role in Napoli’s Serie A title triumph in the 2022/23 season.
The striker later moved to Galatasaray, where he has continued to produce impressive numbers and remains a subject of interest among clubs in England.
Despite reported interest and public backing from former Manchester United players, including Patrice Evra and Louis Saha, Osimhen remains with Galatasaray.
Cole's comments come as speculation over a potential Premier League move continues, with future transfer windows potentially reopening the possibility of a move to England.
