The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are investigating the utilisation of a N12 billion Federal Government intervention fund released to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for players’ wages and bonuses.
The development was disclosed by the NFF in a letter dated August 18, 2026, responding to a request for access to financial records and utilisation logs relating to the fund.
The letter, signed by Onoja Joshua, Esq., on behalf of the NFF General Secretary, was addressed to Cromwell & Okeke following a Freedom of Information request dated August 7 and received by the federation on August 11.
According to the NFF, the requested records could not be released because the matter is currently subject to investigations by the EFCC and ICPC.
The federation stated that all documents relating to the request are currently before the two anti-corruption agencies.
The letter, referenced NFF/LEG/10/1/879, was titled: “Application for disclosure of financial records and utilisation logs regarding the N12 billion Federal Government Intervention Fund released for players’ wages and bonuses.”
However, the NFF did not disclose in the letter what specific transactions or activities involving the fund are being examined by the EFCC and ICPC.
It also did not state whether any NFF officials or other individuals had been invited or questioned as part of the investigations.
The disclosure comes amid renewed scrutiny of the management of public funds allocated to Nigerian football, particularly money intended to settle players’ wages, allowances and bonuses.
A copy of the NFF letter shows that the federation’s response was issued from its General Secretary’s office at the Football House, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Dafy World E!News understands that the NFF’s letter does not itself establish wrongdoing by any individual. It confirms only that the subject matter of the information request is currently under investigation by the EFCC and ICPC.
