Popular Kano social media personality and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, has reportedly been killed at his home in Kano State.
Dan Shagamu, who operated under the brand Dan-shagamu International, was known for his social media videos and commentary on political, religious and community issues.
According to Amnesty International Nigeria, his body was found in a pool of blood at his residence on Wednesday.
In a statement shared on X, the rights organisation condemned the killing and called on Nigerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
"Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of a social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu whose body was found today in a pool of blood at his home in Kano," the organisation said.
Amnesty International Nigeria further alleged that Dan Shagamu was attacked and killed after being overpowered by his assailants.
The incident, while details surrounding the circumstances of the killing and the identity of those responsible remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Reports circulating on social media have also described the attack as particularly violent. However, Dafy World could not independently confirm some of those claims from the Kano State Police Command.
Amnesty International has called on Nigerian authorities to investigate the killing and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
The organisation also raised concerns about reports of politically related threats and intimidation as the elections approach.
"The Nigerian authorities must investigate this incident and ensure that those suspected of responsibility are brought to justice," Amnesty International said.
