A Ghanaian first-class graduate, Mercy Yaaba Bredu, has reportedly d*ed in China just two days after leaving Ghana to pursue a master’s degree.
According to reports from people who knew her, Bredu experienced health difficulties during the journey, including complaints of heart pain. She travelled from Ghana on Monday, August 24, 2026.
After arriving in China, Bredu reportedly collapsed at the airport while receiving a bouquet of flowers from people who had come to welcome her.
She was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where medical personnel attended to her and attempted to stabilise her condition.
Despite the medical intervention, she reportedly died on Wednesday, August 26, two days after leaving Ghana.
Bredu was a former Vice President of the Association of Students of English (ASSENS) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in 2024. She had reportedly secured scholarship opportunities in the United States and China before choosing China for her postgraduate studies.
Her sudden d3ath has left her family, friends and former colleagues mourning.
