Man Allegedly Posed As 49ers Player To Defraud 26 Women Of $1.3 Million

Two men have been charged in the United States over an alleged investment scam that prosecutors say defrauded 26 women of approximately $1.3 million.

Federal prosecutors in Portland, Oregon, charged 35-year-old Daejon Labrayae Love and 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.

The FBI arrested the pair at Boise Airport in Idaho on August 24, 2026, after authorities alleged they had traveled there to meet potential new victims.

According to federal authorities, Love and Chan allegedly began the scheme in February 2022, targeting women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California with fictitious investment opportunities.

Prosecutors allege that Love met the women online, including through dating apps, and presented himself as a wealthy investor and NFL player.

He allegedly introduced Chan as his financial adviser, which prosecutors say was intended to make the investment operation appear legitimate.

Authorities further allege that many of the women became romantically involved with Love after he promised to build a future with them using the money they invested.

Prosecutors allege that Love advertised investment opportunities that did not exist while promising substantial financial returns.

According to the allegations, fake bank accounts were also used to make the investment scheme appear genuine.

Chan is accused of pretending to be Love's investment adviser and allegedly sending him messages about supposed profitable investment opportunities.

Love allegedly forwarded screenshots of those messages to women as part of efforts to persuade them to provide large amounts of money.

After receiving the funds, prosecutors allege that Love and Chan disappeared with the money.

Love's social media accounts allegedly contained several photographs of him wearing San Francisco 49ers clothing and football equipment.

According to federal authorities, the images included photographs taken at gyms, parking lots and on a beach.

Prosecutors allege that Love used the appearance of being an NFL player as part of the persona presented to the women.

The federal charges against Love and Chan remain allegations. A criminal complaint is an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
