Amazon has announced that its Prime customers will be able to get groceries delivered to their homes for free starting today with same-day slots made available in some places.
From Tuesday 28 July, the firm will automatically offer its Amazon Fresh service to Prime subscribers across 300 postcodes. The subscribers would receive free two-hour food delivery slots on orders of more than £40.
This recent development comes after figures showed that online shopping now accounts for £3 of every £10 spent in the UK. This is an increase from the initial value of £2 before the COVID-19 outbreak.
Supermarkets have been saving lives during the pandemic as people have continued placing their food orders online; Amazon seems to be cashing in on the new trend.
In recent developments, customers can now purchase many grocery items on Amazon as supplied by Whole Foods, Booths and a range of other brands including Pepsi and Warburtons.
Also, Prime subscribers residing across 40 postcodes in London, as well as the South East, will be able to get their groceries same day they ordered for them as Amazon has promised to speed up delivery.
According to a spokesman, the new scheme could be extended to other parts of the country before year-end.
