Alexander Zverev has been sent packing from the Rogers Cup at the first hurdle at the hands of Lu Yen-Hsun.

The Taiwanese player caused a significant upset in Toronto with a 7-5 6-3 win over one of the sport's brightest, young talents.

The 19-year-old Zverev had no answer to the world No 70 and was dumped out of the competition within an hour and 32 minutes. Germany's Zverev managed to keep just 54 per cent of his first serves in during a frustrating outing.

Elsewhere, Sam Querrey prevailed 7-6 6-4 against home favourite Frank Dancevic. Dennis Novikov won 6-4 6-4 against Federico Delbonis and Benoit Paire was another surprising exit, after the Frenchman was beaten 6-1 6-3 by Radek Stepanek.
