The death toll from the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Italy has risen to 247. rescue efforts continue as they search for surviviours.
The civil protection department in Rome said a tally by local officials showed that 190 people were killed in Rieti province, and 57 in the province of Ascoli Piceno.
The strong earthquake which brought down buildings on Wednesday, occurred at some minutes before 4 am in North-East of Rome.
Many of the dead were in the historic town of Amatrice, where the mayor said 3-quarters of the town was destroyed.
