A 54-year-old Minister of Water,
Environment and Planning, Emmanuel Niyonkuru, has been shot dead on his way to his home in Rohero by an unknown assassin in the capital Bujumbura, on Sunday, according to police.
African Union chief, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has expressed her condolences with the family of the minister and Burundians.
She condemned the act as barbaric calling on the Burundian government to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Burundi has experienced relative calm after it was plunged into a
serious political crisis in 2015 arising from President’s Pierre
Nkurunziza decision to run for a third term.
