Prison Officer Commits Suicide Weeks To Wedding, After Being Denied Promotion Three Times

Alfred Bassa, a 28 year old staff of the Nigerian Correctional Service, formerly known as Nigerian Prison Service,  committed suicide after being denied promotion consecutively for three times.

Prior to his untimely death, Alfred Bassa, was a Microbiology graduate of the Nasarawa State University and was supposed to marry his fiancee next month, November 2020.

He reportedly drank a poisonous substance on October 2, 2020, at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State.after writing promotional examinations three times and passing yet was denied promotion.

He took the drastic decision as a new set of officers were reportedly promoted last week and he was left out again.
