Former Kano State Governor and NDC Vice Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself from a viral social media message alleging that he was planning a protest over the worsening security situation in the country.
In a statement released on Monday, Kwankwaso described the message as false and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard it. He stressed that neither he nor his associates support actions capable of disrupting public order or endangering lives and property.
Kwankwaso reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, noting that elections remain the most legitimate avenue for expressing grievances and effecting political change.
According to him, the NDC remains focused on securing victory through peaceful and lawful means in the forthcoming elections. He also cautioned Nigerians against spreading unverified information, while calling on supporters to ignore those behind the alleged disinformation campaign.
The PRESS STATEMENT reads:
Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country.
We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges.
As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.
The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation.
