Yoruba Nation activist, , popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has accused certain politicians of sponsoring kidnapping activities in Oyo State and warned that he may publicly expose those allegedly involved if the attacks persist.
Igboho made the allegations while receiving newly elected leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by , at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan. His comments were captured in a video that circulated widely on Wednesday, TVC News also confirmed.
Speaking on the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area, Igboho claimed he volunteered to assist in rescue operations but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government. According to him, state authorities informed him that the kidnappers had threatened to kill the victims if he intervened.
The activist maintained that the abductors could be driven out of their hideouts if security forces were allowed to pursue them aggressively. He further alleged that some politicians were providing financial support and weapons to criminal groups operating in the region.
Igboho also stated that his security outfit, Iru Ekun, had received approval from the Federal Government to operate but was restricted from participating in security operations by the state government. He argued that local security initiatives should be allowed to assist in efforts to rescue kidnapped victims and combat criminal activities in forested areas.
In addition, the activist linked the growing insecurity in parts of the country to what he described as efforts by certain individuals to undermine the administration of President . He alleged that some actors were deliberately creating instability and spreading misinformation to weaken public confidence in the government.
According to Igboho, similar political tactics were used against former President , and he claimed that attempts are now being made to make the country difficult to govern under Tinubu's leadership.
His remarks come amid widespread public concern following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. The incident sparked renewed calls for stronger security measures across Oyo State.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Oyo State Government nor security agencies had publicly responded to the allegations made by Sunday Igboho.
