Nigerian-British Influencer D!es After Penis Enlargement Procedure In Thailand, UK Coroner Rules

A Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died after undergoing a cosmetic penis enlargement procedure while on holiday in Thailand.

A UK coroner has ruled that the 43-year-old's death was caused by a fatal pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic treatment.

Ubiribo, who was also known as “Tiny,” “Denisi” and “Ego,” reportedly travelled to Bangkok with his wife, Zimbabwean fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen.

According to reports presented during an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners' Court, about 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into his penis during the procedure at a clinic in Thailand in March.

After the treatment, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly returned to their hotel before going for a massage. During the massage, he complained of chest pain and later collapsed.

He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors were told that he had recently undergone cosmetic filler injections.

Medical personnel reportedly suspected that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan. However, he lost consciousness before the scan could be carried out.

Ubiribo was later moved to the intensive care unit, where doctors reportedly performed CPR for more than 100 minutes in an effort to save his life.

He died in the early hours of March 6.

A postmortem examination conducted in the UK later found cellular material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid reportedly used during the cosmetic procedure.

Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that the material found in Ubiribo's lungs matched the substance injected during the treatment. The findings were also said to be consistent with the results of an autopsy conducted in Thailand.

Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently ruled that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic procedure.

Ubiribo was known for showcasing his affluent lifestyle on social media and reportedly had about 185,000 followers on Instagram.

He reportedly owned properties in Los Angeles and London and married Danielle Simba Allen in a lavish wedding ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022.

Following his death, he was buried in London. Afrobeats star Davido reportedly attended the funeral and paid tribute to Ubiribo, whom he described as a childhood friend.

The coroner's ruling has renewed attention on the potential risks associated with injectable cosmetic procedures. Although hyaluronic acid is widely used in cosmetic treatments, complications from injectable fillers can be serious.
